At 9:25 on the evening of 9/13/08 Fox News is headlining with three main news stories in the political world. This includes: Joe Biden stepping up the pace, Alan Greenspan slamming McCain's tax policy, and Florida's new voter registration law.
First off Sarah Palin has been on the cover of magazines and has been holding massive joint rallies with John McCain since the Republican National Convention has ended. This has put her on the fore-front of the American voters minds as they think about how will they cast their vote in November.
The Obama campaign has realized that Joe Biden is definitely playing fourth fiddle behind Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, and John McCain. The Obama campaign wants him to become more of an attack dog on McCain (whom he calls his friend) and work on courting white working class voters for November. They want him out there to combat the recent jump in the polls that McCain has enjoyed and many people attribute that rise from his selection of Sarah Palin to be his Vice-Presidential running-mate.
I think that this is something that has been developing for the last week or two and certainly is looking like a plus for McCain according to this article because the Obama camp is now running on the offensive since they have been lacking. I think that this is very accurate, the way that Fox News has portrayed this. This is a primary issue that has a conservative bias to it.
Another issue that has surfaced in that former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Greensapan has come out against John McCain's tax policy unless it also contains some spending cuts. Greenspan says that the McCain policy could have a price tag of $3.3 trillion but the McCain camp says that figure is only $600 billion if you consider the renewal of the Bush tax cuts. McCain originally voted against the Bush tax cuts but he says now that he thinks that they should be renewed.
This issue has not really be emphasized by this media source. It doesn't look good for the conservative ticket so they are not pushing this too heavily. I agree that tax cuts must be coupled with spending cuts. I find that most people talk about low taxes and less government waste. McCain is planning on both.
After watching the debacle of the Florida Presidential vote in 2000, the Florida Secretary of State's office has been complying with a new voter registration law which is called "No Match, No Vote." All this means is that when the 400,000 new voters registered this year that meant that they cross checked their driver's licenses and their social security numbers with those respective databases. Out of the 400,000 new voters only about 1,500 had to be double checked. Isn't this a small price to pay to make sure that voters are who they say they are.
I think that this is something that Democrats are too bitter about and Fox News has covered this so that they can ensure that whatever happens in 2008 won't be blamed on a certain state again and that just because Obama loses they won't have anything to complain about. I think this is something that needed to be done after 2000 and many people agree that 2000 unfolded into a mess that should not have happened. Fox News has presented this as an important development.
